The folks at Kveller.com asked me to come up with a New Years Resolution in time for Rosh Hashanah. Here’s what I came up with:

I’ve thought a lot about my resolutions for Rosh Hashanah. All of the old stuff came up that usually comes to mind around the end of December: losing weight, exercising more, finally finishing that sweater that I started for my husband years ago, decluttering my house, etc etc.

But Rosh Hashanah is different. It’s less about my physical life than my spiritual life. Rather than worrying about my body or my stuff, I want to spend this year breathing. I’ve written about meditation here on Kveller, and that’s part of it. But it’s also about slowing down, letting go, finding space, finding peace, finding meaning, and focusing on what really matters: my children, my husband, my family, my writing, and my faith. That’s a tall order and a long journey, but it all starts with finding my breath.
